On October 25, the New Canaan Historical Society and DOCOMOMO New York/Tri-State will co-sponsor a reception marking the publication of Midcentury Houses Today published by The Monacelli Press. Preceding the cocktail reception at the Historical Society, there will be an afternoon tour of 3 of the 16 houses featured in the book—the identity of the houses visited to remain a "mystery" until event time.

The book takes a timely and promising approach to historically significant architecture. The writer-photographer-graphic design team behind the book—Michael Biondo, Jeffrey Matz, Lorenzo Ottaviani, and Cristina A. Ross—document 16 of New Canaan's noted Modern houses. Designed by such luminaries as Marcel Breuer, Philip Johnson, John Johansen, and Eliot Noyes, these houses have evolved to meet changing circumstances in the decades since their construction. This evolution is documented with handsome new photos, original and current floor plans, observations by current owners, and a context-setting introduction by DOCOMOMO NY/Tri’s own John Morris Dixon.
